Excited to get to work on a newly funded UG3 grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences (NCATS) with an exceptional group of co-PIs: Nigel Maidment (communicating PI), Clive Svendsen, Ali Khademhoesseini and Nureddin Ashammakhi! We are developing a midbrain-on-a-chip to incorporate into a multi-organ-on-chip (with blood-brain barrier and liver chips) that can be used to screen for new drugs to treat and prevent opioid addiction. The grant, titled Multi-organ-on-chip device for modeling opioid reinforcement and withdrawal, and the negative affective component of pain: a therapeutic screening tool is part of the NIH HEAL (Helping to End Addiction Long-term) initiative.
